Week One; Day Three

CHARACTER: Cassie King (OC); 27 WORD COUNT: 421 words TENSE: Third Person (Narrative Style) FREAK. The police said it was a freak accident. The investigator from the fire department said the same, but she was unsure. How was it that with a perfect history of following codes and safety rules, there was all of a sudden an explosion that almost killed 25 people, her boyfriend included. There had been too many “freak accidents” lately for there not to be some kind of chain connecting them and Cass was starting to get paranoid. She wasn’t normally illogical or unreasonable, but whatever was going on was quickly spiraling out of hand. The only obvious dots connecting everything were her and Colt – and she knew neither of them were making these incidents occur. Was Karma real? Was it stalking them? Had one of them done something bad that some higher power was trying to make them pay for? That seemed as unreasonable and illogical as any other option, but she was running out of ideas. Every time something happened, one of them came closer to dying and more often than her, it was Colt. She was not willing to allow him to die like this. She had been waiting all of her life to find him and she was not wiling to lose him so soon. Something had to be done to find out the truth about why these events continued to happen one after another. She had gone to the police; they looked at her like she had lost her mind. In fact, everyone was looking at her like she was a freak of nature when she claimed there was a connection here. Colt had been the only one to believe her. Now…even he was starting to wonder whether she was losing her mind or just about to have a nervous breakdown. Deep in his soul, he knew her though. He knew that if she was this passionate about something then there had to be some truth to it. He was concerned for her, far more than himself, but he just couldn’t come to terms with the idea that she had completely lost her mind. Not yet. So, for now, Cass still had one person on her side – but it was truly only the one. And before she lost him in one of a couple of ways, she had to figure out what was going on and what was causing this string suspicious events that put their lives on the line. And she had to do it fast; she could feel that she was running out of time.
